MEET MY DOGS
I think it’s only fair if I share my dogs with you if we’re going to talk about dogs, primitive breeds, etc. It is difficult handling ONE Akita, but it’s even crazier having a pack of them! But of course, there’ll be a couple of crazy people whose personality and lifestyle match the responsibility that comes with these dogs.
Make sure to check out Bear Dogs – The Akita Instagram account! You will get to see more of my dogs, catch fun content here and there, and keep up with us in real-time in our stories.
BEAR
7/05/2019
Meet my right-hand girl Bear! Combined with an amazing temperament and training she has developed to be a great representation of the breed everywhere she goes. Bear is a real sweetheart when meeting people compared to a standard Akita, but don’t get it twisted, she will make it clear if she doesn’t like you or you seem suspicious.
Bear can be around children, if they kiss or hug her out of nowhere she is prepared to be patient and allow me to step in, there is no dog or human aggression, and has even passed doggy daycare. I can take her on a walk and I do not have to worry about an out-of-control Akita. Just like any Akita, everywhere she goes she attracts a lot of love and attention from strangers. But she didn’t pop out of her mother like this, this can happen because of my training and the boundaries I set up with her.
Bear is off-leashed trained (it’s not a free-for-all with an Akita – don’t get it twisted), she can play fetch consistently, has a solid recall for an Akita, and so much more, but most importantly, I don’t have to worry about her being a serious danger to humans. She’s got a lot of personality but she’s all I could ever ask for. I could gush about her all day!
BLACK MAMBA

Meet my second American Akita, Mamba. He is a young pup and has a long way to go! But oh goodness sake, his paws are bigger than Bear’s! This happens to be great timing, you guys will get to see how I raise an American Akita puppy to behave just as well as Bear.
He’s got an amazing temperament, definitely can say little man is really smart, and unlike Bear, he’s more food-motivated. We’ll see if that changes when he’s a bit more grown. He is more chill than Bear in general, but at the same time he’s got that puppy energy, so…yeah haha.
Mamba holds the standard Akita behavior and is aloof towards strangers. With proper socialization and boundaries, Mamba is doing great with interactions with children. He’s great with people and does not feel the need to protect me as we’ve set those clear boundaries. Unsurprisingly, strangers who try to push up on him and pet his big fluffy head, are not welcomed by him. Very bad manners and I always step in before they make contact.
Mamba’s boundaries are reasonable, he’ll greet a stranger with no suspicion when not necessary, but no touchy touchy! This is expected with a standard Akita (& most dogs – shoot it’s even considered unacceptable behavior among humans). Most importantly, he doesn’t go for a bite correction and follows my lead. This is where most people should get with their Akitas, and a large part of owning these types of breeds is that you have their back and will step in for them because the standard Akitas will never be okay with a stranger disrespecting their space. Yes, it’s not all about training, it’s also a lifestyle. Just a little glimpse of it.
Training wise: when I got him at 12 weeks old he refused to walk, but after one day of training with me, he walks by my side perfectly. Surprisingly, his recall was pretty solid at 9 months old, he’s definitely exceeded my expectations at his young age. I was expecting him to be more rebellious, but of course, currently, at 1 year old, he thinks he’s the sh*t (teenagers I’m telling ya!). Recall’s not on point as before, but don’t worry this is normal as a youngster, you just have to make sure you hold them accountable if they blow you off and stay consistent with training. He’s got his commands down! Did I mention how BIG his fangs are?!?
